Those in our area have been blessed with incredible weather recently. I’m talking 12C and higher. It had been a welcomed, sudden change after snow the past two weekend and a stretch of 4 or more days of rain. We have made sure to get out and enjoy it. We just never know when the next rain stretch may come.
With the sun being out I had no excuse but to get out and get running. The Sun Run is fast approaching next month and I am beginning to freak out a little lot.
I am NOT a runner. I loathed and despised it in school. Ask any of my gym teachers. I’d try my best, but I was not built to run. Now give me a sport where I could smash things or tackle people and that was a whole other story. I saw a tank top recently that I want to get. It said something along the lines of “I am not a runner. If you see me running, you best start running too!”
It felt so good to get out and move. Dare I say that I am beginning to like jogging? I am still not a runner but I do try, and go at more of a jogging pace. I go at my pace. It also helps that my daughter loves being in the stroller, once we get moving, and watch the world zoom past her. That brings me joy, seeing her so happy.
Ultimately my goal next month is to just finish the big run. We are doing it as a family. I know I will be far from the fastest person. I may even be the slowest. I just want to cross that finish line.
Do any of you have any tips for me? I think my biggest fear is getting blisters. Is there anything I can do to help prevent that? I also know I need to get more comfortable running hear.
Anyone else have a run coming up, or is anyone else in the area doing the Sun Run next month?

I’m like you too, totally not a runner! That’s so great that you’re still pursing it. I think the sun run will be on my bucket list, just not this year. Good luck with it.
TamaraG says
Salma, that is exactly why I am doing it. It is on my bucket list and I’m on a mission to be healthy for my family.

…that makes THREE of us then. However this doesn’t mean we can’t try and be runners! right? The sun inspires me to do almost anything, so here is to a uber healthy SPRING and SUMMER.
TamaraG says
Tairalyn, you and I will be conquering the sea well with a spring bike ride with the munchkins 😉

I’ve heard a great pair of socks can really decrease blisters. I got back into running this year with the C25K app – highly recommend it. Good luck with everything!
TamaraG says
Yes, that app had been a help for sure. Thank you for the reminder I do need to get better socks.

I was never a ‘runner’ either…. but someone pointed out to me one evening that the people sat at home watching you run by think you are a runner. So congratulations – you are officially a runner!
TamaraG says
Wahoo, I’m a runner.

I am not a runner either (I’d rather bike or swim) but good for you for getting out. And great that your daughter enjoys it too! I really need to get back on my bike, especially now that my youngest is old enough to ride in the seat behind me so I have no excuse. 🙂

I am not a runner and I don’t think I’ll ever be and I love that you are doing this! Can’t wait to hear how your journey goes and what works well for giving you motivation.

I was never a runner until recently either. Now I find I treat it almost like a reward. Time in my head to just think, or not think. Enjoy the weather (even the rain sometimes!). Feel in control of my own well-being. I am setting an example for my son that each and every person is worth the time they invest in staying healthy. What a great message for our kids!

I’m not a runner either but I’d sure love to try it! I used to back in the day, however, my knees would get pretty sore. Good luck on your fitness quest! You can do it.
TamaraG says
Thank you Kristyl. My knees are bad too. Which is part of why I am trying to get into better shape. You should give it a try some day! Bucket list 😉

I did the sun run once, many years ago. The great thing about it was there were all sorts of people out all running, jogging, and walking at their own pace. The vibe is just a great sense of camaraderie and support. You are so lucky that your daughter likes the stroller. My son is now almost three and just wants out and my daughter who is one hates it. Even a short run with them is a gong show of starts and stops and food bribery trying to keep them seated. Take advantage of the fact your daughter likes it and good luck in the run. I’m sure you’ll do great!
TamaraG says
Thank you for sharing! You give me hope that it will go well and I will enjoy it. I will definitely count my blessings that she likes being in the stroller (for now). We’ll be prepared for snack breaks and diaper changes. It will be interesting that is for sure.

Right on! The good news about running is that it gets easier and more fun and reinforces itself over and over! Have so much fun.
