With the arrival of our second daughter there has been a bit of a shift in the bedtime routine for our oldest. She has become the master of stalling when bedtime happens to. I want a cup of milk. I need cheese. I want to play toys. I want to go walk. These are just a few of the things she lists off when trying to prevent bedtime. We are working on things, we are all getting used to being a family of 4 and figuring out a new bedtime routine that works for all of us.
We recently tried allowing her to have some time to watch one last show before going upstairs to get ready for bed, and do the other parts of her bedtime routine (like brushing teeth, and reading a book). She gets to pick out what she would like to watch, and we make sure she knows she is only watching for a certain amount of time. She’s a huge fan of Sarah & Duck as well as Paw Patrol.
It’s a great opportunity for all of us to slow down, relax on the couch, and get some cuddles in with our oldest. It’s some end of the day time where we are currently able to focus on her. Now if only we could figure out how to get her to not keep calling out her list of things she “wants” once she is in bed?
What do your kids do to stall bedtime, any funny moments?

My kids will ask for a drink of water or they will complain that they can’t find their favourite stuffed animal.

Oh goodness me, we LOVE Sarah and Duck. Actually thought about doing a birthday theme Sofia and Duck 🙂

Sophie tries to stay awake by reading her books to her teddy bears. She insists that she has to tell her teddy bears stories because if she doesn’t they will keep her awake all night.

She’s brilliant! I’d have done the same thing.
