We wanted to go on a little family outing, and I had a few people suggest going to Steveston and walk around. I decided this was a great idea because it is also where one of my favourite shows is filmed, Once Upon a Time. Steveston gets transformed into the town of Storybrooke. This is the prefect outing if you have a major Once Upon a Time fan, you can make some great memories out at Steveston especially if you bump into Snow White or Prince Charming.
When you go to Steveston it just shouts perfect small town location for movies and shows. Apparently we missed filming, as they were there the day before. We just missed out on bumping into Hook or Elsa. The shops get the outsides of them changed to represent what they are on the show, one location now keeps their story Storybrooke sign up all year. The Nitka building in the photo above becomes the town Library and has the clock tower digitally added to it.
If you are a fan of Once Upon a Time I highly recommend heading out to Steveston and going for a walking tour. If you go to the Steveston Candy Dish you can purchase with a minimum $2 donation a walking tour map that tells you which building is turned into what for Storybrooke. The donations go to the food bank, and to date Once Upon a Time fans have helped raise over $2000. This candy store also has a few special Storybrooke treats such as Snow White Fairy Sprinkle Fudge.
It was great going for a stroll around Steveston because there is more to see than just Storybrooke. There is a great little park nearby, and you are also right by the water. Many fishing boats are coming and going with fresh fish. Which also means there are some great places to get fish & chips to eat. We decided to stop in at Hog Shack Cook House for dinner, which was recommended to me by a friend. If you go when it isn’t peak times you can take your stroller right in, this worked great for us because we were able to park Evie right at the table. We shared fish tacos and a poutine. The poutine was massive, and the fries are cut there. This poutine was unique because the fries has some kick to them. We didn’t get through all our dinner so we packed it up to bring home. We actually turned the poutine into breakfast the next day by mixing in some eggs and baking it.
We are hoping to go back in the fall to go for another walk around, maybe next time we will be luck enough to get to bump into some of the characters who regular Storybrooke. I also heard you can get a really yummy hot chocolate from Blenz down there.
Are any of you Once Upon a Time fans? Have you gone for a walk around Storybrooke?

Love Once Upon A Time! My husband grew up in this neighbourhood and his parents still live there so we are often in this area. Still haven’t seen actual filming though!!! Did you see Mr. Gold’s shop? They keep the sign up in that shop also! Next time you’re there, make sure to stop in at Steveston Bakery and at the little chocolate shop (can’t remember the name now, but amazing stuff and the owner is soooo sweet! She will give you the most amazing samples and she makes the cutest personalized Christmas goodies!)
