Summer isn’t over yet folks! We still have over a month to go. Thanks to Raincoast books we had a couple new books added to our little at-home library, and they have a bit of a Summer theme.
We took a couple of the books with us to the beach recently, and it was perfect for relaxing by the water. Look Through: Sea and On My Beach are both great Summer books for younger kids. Both of my girls really enjoy them.
On My Beach by Sara Gillingham is a beautiful die-cut board book, with a little crab that is a finger puppet. As you turn each page you discover what makes little crab love his beach. Maybe it’s the sand and the seaweed? I’ll leave why for you to find out, this book has a very sweet message for young readers. They will be drawn in by the story, and the bright illustrations. The other day I actually found my oldest daughter “reading” through the book to her little sister, and by reading I mean she was telling her what was on each page and using the puppet. It made for one very sweet moment and melted my heart.
Look Through: Sea by Fhiona Galloway is a great book for early learning. Each page of this board book has a creature you can find in the sea. Whales, lobsters, turtles, jellyfish, and many more. Each sea creature is brightly coloured and sure to get the attention of your child. The shapes of each are kept simple, but easily recognizable. The labels for each are also kept basic, but make it great for working on letter recognition with preschoolers. The pages also have raised portions giving the book a touch-and-fell element for interaction. If you are going to an aquarium anytime soon I would also recommend this bok for there.
If you are looking for simple books to read to your little ones about the beach, and animals they may discover check these two out. We adore them. Plus these are great options to add to a baby shower gift if you know someone who is having a Summer baby!
