Pinterest Activities. This summer I’ve tried out a few different easy to do activities I’ve come across on Pinterest. So far they have all been a huge hit with our soon to be preschooler. My favourite has been crushing up sidewalk chalk and using it as paint instead. It doesn’t eat up the chalk like drawing normally would and the painted drawings look great when they dry.
Costco Outings. We attempted our first Costco shopping trip since potty training started. It went really well. We actually wanted to go because we found a two year old executive membership rebate cheque that we could use still and decided to get some groceries. We ended up getting Evie a book pack as a reward for doing so well with potty training. She let us know she needed to go while at the store and had no problem waiting til we got to the other side of Costco where the washrooms are located. We even got to have lunch there.
Big girl room excitement. This summer we have been doing a lot of organizing and purging of our house and its contents. When we got married, and when we moved so much just remained in boxes and bins. It needed to be sorted and dealt with and it finally is. The biggest reason we need to do this is because we are getting set to switch Evie over to her big girl room, and she is cannot wait. We took her to pick out her big girl bed recently. She loved getting to try out all the different ones, and she fell in love with a bed that was on sale for an incredible deal. Now if only I could figure out exactly how I want to decorate her big girl room.
Positive peer pressure. Yes there really is such a thing. We went to a pool party this weekend and had a great time. Many of our friends we have not seen in a bit were there with their kids, and Evie loved getting to hang out with all of them. A highlight for all of us was her watching the other kids who were a bit older, and the same age play in the pool. She tried out a diving board for the first time and jumped into the water to Daddy. She also borrowed a pair of water wings and loved being a bit more independent in the water. Without seeing other kids do these things, I don’t think she would have tried any time soon. We’ve actually bought her a pair of water wings of her own to use now, and will be trying them out this week when we go to another pool party.
Family pets. We recently had to say goodbye to the cat my family adopted when I was a teenager. He was always so good with all of us girls, and that carried over to being great around Evie. He was a bit intimidated by the mini human at first but quickly warmed up to her. Evie adored this cat as much as we all did. The first time we visited after saying goodbye to him, Evie was asking right away “Where’s Kramer?” and it was hard to explain he wouldn’t be round any more.

Aw, I am sorry about your kitty, but yay for big girl bedrooms and potty training! I’ve always loved a good Costco outing myself. 😉
