Super cute cardboard box it came in |
The Honest Company is a diaper brand that was suggested to me for one to try on Everly, when we need to use disposables, such as going away on vacation. Everly has extremely sensitive skin, she had a terrible reaction to diapers when she was only a few days old. When we considered trying Honest diapers, the problem was that the company only shipped throughout the States, thankfully I have a very nice sister who married an awesome American guy, and they do not mind my filling their mail box, and she brings up the items whenever she visits. This time I got the trial pack into my hands on her visit up here for Mother’s Day. Some good news for Canadians interested in The Honest Company, they now ship to Canada! Wahoo!
I was so excited to dig into this box when my sister handed it to me, but I had to wait until I got home later that evening after the days family get-together to celebrate my cousin’s birthday and Mother’s day. The packaging that the samples come in, even the cardboard box they are shipped in, is extremely cute! It even has hints on it to reuse it or to recycle it. I am hoping to pack away some keepsakes of Everly’s into the box.
This company was founded by Jessica Alba and the former CEO of Healthy Child Healthy World Christopher Gavigan… I do not know anything about that company, and all I know about Jessica Alba is that she was in Fantastic Four. The Honest Company is about eco-friendly, safe, and non-toxic products. The Honest Company has a large range of products than just diapers and wipes. I am intrigued to try out some of the other items too.
I ordered the “Free Trial” for the diapers and wipes bundle. You do have to pay for the shipping of the product which works out to around $6, and you do have to create an account to order from them. The one big thing in ordering the trial is that you have to call them and cancel “your membership” that the Honest Company automatically signs you up for when you order the trial. If you do not call and cancel you will be charged for a shipment of a bundle of the items you ordered the trial of. This will arrive at your door and is about a months worth of stuff… that is a lot of diapers and shampoo if you do not like the products and actually cloth diaper the majority of the time. It is also a lot of money to be charged to your credit card! It would be nice if you could just order the trial kits and not have to worry about that. I get it though, the company wants you to subscribe and become a member, and to be receiving their product monthly. I asked The Honest Company about this, especially with cloth diapering most of the time, and what you can do is log into your account and delay when the bundle of items will arrive, and you can also change the print of the diapers and the size you need. This is great if you do not always need disposable diapers. If you do not wish to get the bundles, be sure to call, The Honest Company has great customer service from my experience in talking to them on a few occasions.
Dinosaurs, Hippos, Tiny Prints, Leopard, Strawberries, Hearts, and Bloom |
In the trial pack I received 6 diapers. While it may appear that you get to select what print you want in the trial pack, you actually get a prepackage set of diapers that are either for a girl or a boy… oddly we got dinosaurs in our set so Everly sported that one first, as it is not girly in my opinion. I had selected several prints that I was hoping to get a sample of to see in person, such as their bloom, pink star, and leopard prints. The Honest Company does have some of the most unique prints I have ever seen on disposable diapers. Normally you can pick from Sesame Street or Winnie the Pooh in stores. The hippo print we received is actually connected to a non-profit partnership they currently have with WWF.
These diapers seem to fit very narrow in the legs, so if you have a “chunky lil monkey” they may not work very well. It also seems like the diapers are smaller in size when compared to other diapers that are supposed to be for the same size/weight of a little one. You may need to get the next size up. We haven’t had any crazy moments with these diapers, which means we have not had to deal with the dreaded blow out that tends to happen with disposables. These diapers are extremely absorbent, and are great for overnight wear. Everly sleeps for about 12hrs straight at night, and wakes up dry. The one time we had a leak was because she was sleeping in pjs that had a top and a bottom and the bottoms pulled the diaper down a bit. Lesson learned, she now sleeps in onesie style zip up pjs. We found these diapers fit Everly really well.
In the free sample you also receive a trial pack of the diaper wipes. I have read many other reviews that these wipes are very thin and flimsy. We didn’t find this to be the case at all. When we ordered the trial pack the only problem we had was that the wipes were individually placed in the package, they were not connected to be pulled out one after the other. This however, has been changed and The Honest Company listened to the requests from its customers to make the wipes more user friendly. Again, I love the packaging, I always like when there is something bright and cheerful in my diaper bag. The bright colours on the package often catches Everly’s attention, now that she is at the phase of not liking getting her diaper changed because she wants to play, this has proven to be very helpful in distracting her during diaper changes. I love how soft and absorbent the wipes are, and have never had a problem with them tearing apart.
Seriously, how cute is that diaper on! |
The one thing I would like to see The Honest Company do, is to put a dozen diapers in their trial kits. I feel you do not get a true testing of the diapers when you only have enough for maybe a day of use (depending on your little one). The prints do really sucker you in, as a Mom who loves the prints on my cloth diapers this is one thing that does draw me to this brand. I really like that they shipped everything in a very compact cardboard box that I will definitely be reusing. The packaging in general is great for all of their items, it gets your attention.
For those who use disposables with their children on a very regular basis, I think it’s awesome to have the option of being able to order diapers each month and never having to do the run to the store to buy diapers last minute because you are about to run out. With this you are stocked up ever month and do not have to worry. It would however be nice to see these products available in stores and not just through the companies website, I would love to save on shipping costs.
The Honest Company diapers have also become our go to when we need to use disposable diapers. We use these on vacations, or if Everly has a diaper rash and we need to use special medicated creams that are not cloth diaper friendly. If we need to get disposables we do order the bundle for diapers and wipes as it gets us the best price for our money. Always keep an eye out for deals or special offers on the companies Facebook page. The Honest Company also has a referral program where if a friend of yours signs up thanks to the email or post on your Facebook, you get a nice surprise in your account!
