We had a long weekend right before school started again. We decided to have a last hurrah of summer! We wanted to do something as a family one last time before it was back to the routine of school days. I already feel a little overwhelmed and saddened to not be able to do what we want every single day. It’s part of what I love about summer.
A SUMMER I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER
Our girls had made a request to go to the beach and have fish and chips to eat. I didn’t want to head to our usual place in White Rock. Instead, we decided to go to Stanley Park. For me, driving out there and going to the beach there brings back all of my childhood memories. My parents often took my sisters and me there when we were kids. I have so many memories of playing there as a kid.
Addie was even wearing a jacket from my childhood! I can’t remember exactly, but I think it’s a coat that my sisters and I all wore at some point. I love that my parents held onto it and now my girls have each worn it. It wasn’t the only thing from my childhood to that day. A little later we walked over to this tree branch that is curved in the shape of a “U”. My dad took a photo of my older sister and me there. Now I have a photo of my girls there!
EVERY SUMMER HAS A STORY
This has been a summer filled with waiting on the news after Jason’s surgery. Once we got that good news we were able to relax and fill our summer with making memories that have become the story of our summer. It was just what we needed as a family. We needed to spend time together and bring some joy back. That is just what we did. I feel like I can say I am ready for school to really be in swing again and for Fall to arrive. Our last hurrah of summer was just what we needed.
