I shared this photo on my instagram asking others to please tell me I’m not the only one with a laundry monster in their house. Sure enough it seems this monster had invaded other homes too.
It is something that can just sneak up on you out over no where, and it can triple in size in one day. This monster can be a hard one to fight, and it seems like it is one that is part of a never ending battle.
How do you keep sane and organized when it comes to laundry? Do you tackle it every day, or do you wait every couple of days to do laundry? Does anyone actually iron all their laundry? Do you have different laundry baskets to keep items and colours sorted?
We have a laundry basket in Evie’s room, and one in ours. We do laundry every couple of days, and cloth diaper laundry happens every third morning. Sadly all the clean clothing tends to end up folded at the foot of our bed and not back in the closets or drawers right away. This is something we are working on and it may come down to whoever is not giving Evie a bath in the evening goes and puts her clean clothing back where it should be in her room before she goes to bed for the night. Then once she is in bed we both put everything else away.
So, how do you avoid the laundry monster or defeat it in your home?

Washing for 7 I guess I washed everyday. I sorted, wash and wear, whites and linens, and dark clothes. Guess I washed more than one load at a time, so not always every day. Fold, and sort as it comes out of the dryer. Then make yourself take it to the room or drawer it goes in and just get it all done at once. If you have time, this makes you feel better rather than leaving it till later. If I can’t put it away right away, I put it, already folded and sorted into a laundry basket, until I can. Then it isn’t all over the place.

I do laundry every other day. Each time I do a diaper load, and every other time I throw in all our clothes. I don’t sort colours at all since it’s normally just one basket full. I just wash on cold all the time.
I do all the folding the same day in the evening once Calvin is in bed so he doesn’t mess with the piles. It my “boys are in bed, an it’s time to watch tv, fold laundry and hang out with Tim” time. I actually quite enjoy it!
I put the boys’ stuff away the next day once they are awake. As for our stuff, I find it is helpful to take it out of the baskets and put it on the bed. That way we are forced to put it away before bedtime.
Once in a while the folding doesn’t happen the same day, or it sits folded in the baskets longer than a day, but then I remind myself it’s way nicer to have a tidy house, and it takes just a couple minutes to put the stuff away!
