Yesterday we took Evie in for a check up at the doctor. She will be one and a half this weekend – wow time is going fast! – and we wanted to just make sure all was well and ask a couple questions.
I am so thankful that Evie is so good when we do have to go in. We had a bit longer wait than usual and she happily played at the kids table. She will also happily people watch. We got called back finally, and she had her weight and height taken. She has stood on the large scale the past few visits, but this was the first time they had her stand by the large ruler to measure her, instead of having her lie down and take it. She is 23lbs, and almost 32 inches tall.
Evie is in the 80th percentile for her height, and around the 70th percentile for her weight. Mostly we wanted to know that she was doing well health wise because to us she seems small when we see her around other kids her age. Apparently we are hanging out with giants… what’s in all those organic foods kids are not getting these days? The doctor assured us she is doing well, and even she is on the taller side of things.
We were able to get her referral sent in for her next eye checkup in the fall. We are continuing to pray that her eye gets better, and that it does not get worse. We would really like to put off the surgery to correct her eyelid until she is much older. We also asked about allergies. Since different allergies are very common in my family I wanted to ask about it, and see if we should be doing anything. We are going to be starting a food journal again and keep track of things to see if she is reacting to anything. The doctor has asked that we do come back again around her second birthday so that we can go over this concern again then. If we are noticing things, an allergy test can be done but because little ones have such sensitive skin you can often get false positives with scratch tests. It is best to wait til they are 3 or older. So I guess we will cross that bridge if needed in the future. For now I will be doing a lot of journaling.
I am so thankful that Evie is very good when we have to go to the doctor or different specialists. The things in the room keep her very occupied, and we have not had a major freak out. (Though we are not looking forward to her first dentist trip, that we think will be an interesting one) The doctor was able to check her heart beat, and lungs without a problem. Maybe Evie being a huge fan of Doc McStuffins helped with that? She was really excited to get two stickers at the end of the appointment.
Now we head into the once a year checkups with the doctor as Evie grows up, and of course random visits if she gets sick. How do your kiddos do with doctors appointments?

So glad to hear! My guy does pretty well, except for head measuring and looking in his ears. For some reason he hates those two things! I don’t really understand why they measure the head anyway, but that’s probably a whole different issue!

My kids are pretty good when it comes to doctor’s appointments. We did the typical well baby visits until they were 18 months and then again when they turned 4 for the needles before they started school. Typically we only take our kids to the doctor when they get sick. Our family doctor never really encouraged the yearly visits, but our kids don’t have any health concerns or allergies. We do schedule yearly visits to the optometrist though. I should make it a thing for us to do a weight and height check at home before school starts.
