Yesterday I took some time for myself and I went and had microblading done, for the second time ever, by the lovely Adelle of Bee Pampered. It was long overdue. I cannot even begin to describe how happy I was to be back. However, I knew we would be starting back at square one from my first experience having microblading.
I meant to get in for a touchup before the one-year mark but life got ahold of me and then everything went crazy with my husband’s cancer journey and suddenly two years had passed. I was going crazy filling in my brows every day with dip brow pomade or powders. From my own experience, I knew that microblading cut down on my time getting ready each morning. It also helped me to feel more confident going without any makeup. There is just something about having full, filled in brows that I love!
YOUR QUESTIONS ABOUT MICROBLADING ANSWERED
- Does it hurt? The numbing cream that is put on at the beginning definitely helps with what you are feeling. I would say it is comparable to being scratched repeatedly. What you feel is more a constant sensation that to me actually is more annoying than painful. Some do not like the sound of the blade and find it’s best to wear headphones and listen to music.
- How long does it last? This is something that depends on your skin. This isn’t a traditional tattoo so the pigment does not go as deep into your skin. Over time it will naturally fade away. Most say it lasts between 1 to 3 years. The longevity of it also depends on your skin type, if it’s oily or normal. Oily skin will find it fades faster than normal skin types. For myself, two years later I had a few sections that I could still see faintly. These spots had lost their “crispness” if you will and I was finding I needed to fill in my brows again to make them look how I preferred.
- What’s it like for sensitive skin? If you are concerned about it talk to your doctor and talk to your microblading artist first. A good artist will do everything to ensure the treatment meets their client’s needs. If you have sensitive skin you may need a cold compress after. It is also possible to have a reaction to the ink, you could see about doing a spot test beforehand. If you do go ahead with having microblading done, don’t hesitate to speak up during the process if something does not feel right. You need to have open communication with your artist. After my procedure, I had no swelling or redness and the aftercare ointment I was given helps with the healing process. This is my unique experience and it can be different for others.
- What’s aftercare like? After having your initial microblading appointment you’ll need to not use any cleansers directly on your brows. Apply a small amount of aftercare ointment to your brows with a q-tip in the morning and in the evening. Avoid exercise, sweating, and direct sunlight for 7-10 days while the brows heal. You also can’t have a long shower for a week after. The marks made in your skin need time to scab over and heal, no scratching! 6 weeks after you’ll be booked in for a touch-up appointment and this is where your brows will be fine-tuned.
- How much does it cost? Eyebrow microblading with Bee Pampered is $450 and the price for return client touchups varies at the time of return visit. Before one year it’s $200 and between one to three years it is $400. This is definitely an investment, but if you are someone who is spending 10+ minutes filling in and shaping your brows each day, you may find this to be a game changer too!
The after photos are my favourite to see when someone has microblading done. It’s incredible the difference that I can already see in my brows thanks to Adelle at Bee Pampered. I am so excited to start this process again and this time I am making sure to take time for myself and I will be booking in my touchup appointments and making it to them! I do not want to have to start at square one all over again.
