If you’ve followed us for some time you know we are Disney fans. So when Walt Disney Studios announced what was coming to theatres in 2017 we wanted to share with all of you what we are looking forward to seeing. You better believe there will be a couple date nights and some family movie nights happening this year. I’m getting our popcorn and Junior Mints ready to go for when these come out!
Of the movies mentioned below, what are you looking forward to seeing the most?
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
“Beauty and the Beast” is set to come to theatres March 17, 2017. Anyone else remember the first time they watched this original animated movie? I sure do, so you better believe I am ridiculously excited for this. The new, live-action film is said to contain the story and characters that audiences have come to know and love. I cannot wait to see how Belle is portrayed by Emma Watson in this adaptation of Disney’s animated classic “Beauty and the Beast”. From what I’ve seen in the trailers that have been released already it is sure to be a stunning, cinematic event celebrating one of the most beloved tales ever told.
If you’ve never seen the 1991 version, “Beauty and the Beast” is all about the journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart of the true Prince within.
One of the main things I’m excited for is the soundtrack. There are several songs from this classic that I am looking forward to hearing from this. There’s been little snippets of Emma Watson singing already and it just makes me even more excited to hear “Gaston” and “Be Our Guest”. The music is what I feel could make or break this movie.
BORN IN CHINA
DisneyNature will be releasing “Born In China” in mid April. This one just brings back instant flashbacks to my childhood and watching DisneyNature shows in elementary school. It’s been a bit since the last DisneyNature movie, and rightly so with how incredibly difficult it must be to get the footage used in these films.
Disneynature’s new True Life Adventure film “Born In China” will be taking viewers on an epic journey into the wilds of China where few people have ever ventured. You will be following the stories of three animal families, as the film transports audiences to some of the most extreme environments on Earth to witness some of the most intimate moments ever captured in a nature film.
There is a doting panda bear mother guides her growing baby as she begins to explore and seek independence. A two-year-old golden monkey, who feels displaced by his new baby sister, that joins up with a group of free-spirited outcasts. And a mother snow leopard—an elusive animal rarely caught on camera—faces the very real drama of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest and most unforgiving environments on the planet.
I cannot wait to see the stunning, never-before-seen imagery, as the film navigates China’s vast terrain—from the frigid mountains to the heart of the bamboo forest—on the wings of red-crowned cranes, seamlessly tying the extraordinary tales together. I am also intrigued to hear John Krasinski narrating this one.
GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: VOL 2
May is set to have a date night for my husband and me when we go to see “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. We enjoyed the first one and it is often picked as what we watch for movie night at home. Set to the all-new sonic backdrop of Awesome Mixtape #2, Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos.
The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mystery of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand.
If you’ve seen the teaser trailer you know Baby Groot is back, I for one want to know if he presses the button that controls the bomb. We know he runs away with the controller, but what happens?
PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES
Also set to be released in May is the next instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, bring on “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.” Johnny Depp is returning as everyone’s favourite swashbuckling anti-hero Jack Sparrow. I’ve yet to see him in any trailers, though I’m sure his appearance is still to come as we get closer to May.
This continuation of the Pirates saga finds down-on-his-luck Captain Jack feeling the winds of ill-fortune blowing strongly his way when deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar, escape from the Devil’s Triangle and are set on killing every pirate at sea—notably, they want Jack.
Jack’s only hope of survival lies in the legendary Trident of Poseidon, but to find it he must forge an uneasy alliance with Carina Smyth, a brilliant and beautiful astronomer, and Henry who is a headstrong young sailor in the Royal Navy. At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitifully small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has ever faced.
I’ve seen all of the Pirates films so I will definitely be seeing this. I am wondering if the movie is continuing towards a more dark theme that’s existed in the most recent movies. I’d love to see a turn back to more of Jack’s comedic relief from the very first Pirates of the Caribbean, for now, we wait to find out.
CARS 3
It looks like we might be celebrating our anniversary (a day late) with a family movie night out to see Cars 3 when it comes to theatres June 16th. We are all huge fans of the Cars movies in this house, and going to Disneyland recently just added to our love for it.
“Cars 3” is about how there is a new generation of blazing-fast racers. This blindsides the legendary Lightning McQueen as he is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
If you’ve seen the trailer for “Cars 3” you know there is a big crash scene involving Lightning McQueen. My oldest is already asking what’s happened to him and if he is okay. I cannot wait to find out as a family.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII
December marks the return of Star Wars with Rey continuing her epic journey along with Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker. The next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga is “Star Wars: Episode VIII”. Not much is known about this one just yet, but we are looking forward to seeing Rey. Seeing the Star Wars films is pretty much tradition for my husband so I know this will be a must see for him.

So many great movies coming out! We just saw Moana in theaters and saw previews for most of these. I might be most excited for Beauty and the Beast, but I might also be a little biased since I played Belle once on stage so she’s near and dear to my heart.
