Jason asked a month ago if I’d like to go away on a mini getaway as a family. Of course! He kept an eye for deals on Groupon. Eventually we agreed to go back to Whistler. Its one of my favourite places to travel to, I love seeing snow! My mom and sister also drove up for one day. It was my Mom’s first time ever going to Whistler and she’s already hoping to go back for a long visit so another mini getaway is already in the future.
Since we were staying over night I knew we needed to pack some things to take along. With a munchkin though you have to pack a bit more stuff. We brought our stroller and baby carrier with us, and one suitcase containing all other items. Jason and I are slowly figuring out departure timing with a little one, we always say we’re leaving 30 minutes earlier than we actually want to this way we are out the door on time or early, so far it is working. With Evie though with did make an extra stop or two on the way. Normally we just stop to fill the car with gas. This time we stopped so I could go into the back seat because she was fussy, and then we stopped again so that she could be fed and changed. By that time Jason and I were also hungry because we’d had a very early breakfast. My mom and sister made every stop too because they were following us. Though they could have left an hour or so after us and made it there the same time as us.
We checked into our hotel, and quickly tossed everything into the room so we could make the most of my families little adventure there. We strolled around the village, did some window shopping, and bought some fudge. None of us went on the gondola because it was a very cloudy day on the mountain, but we did put Evie in snow for the first time ever. She was not too sure what to think of it.
Everyone was looking forward to lunch. We discovered El Furniture Warehouse in the village, all of the food on the menu is $4.95! Such a great deal, and the food is very tasty. With that sort of price there is always a wait to get in, Jason took Everly back to the hotel to switch her to the carrier so that it would be easier for both of us to enjoy a warm meal. Normally one of us is holding her and waits to eat when the other is done. A bit of a walk around was enjoyed after dropping everything off in the hotel room. I returned with Evie shortly after leaving because she was very grumpy and over tired, she fell asleep on my walk back with her. Sadly the others did not make it to Lost Lake because the trail was closed to cross country skiers only. Soon after my mom and sister took off to head back home.
Jason and I brought food with us to make for dinner, any way to save money right? Evie has become a huge fan of lying on the floor and getting to kick her feet. We are so thankful for this because it gives us a bit of a break. Its always nice to get to stay in a hotel in Whistler that has an outdoor pool and hot tub, especially when the snow is falling. We all went for a dip in the pool, it was Evie’s first time in a pool. She only went in to her wait for about 3 minutes because it was still a little cold out with it being an outdoor pool. Evie and I headed back to the room so that I could give her a bath and get her ready for bed. Jason got to enjoy the hot tub. Soon we realized something was not quite right.
When I went to give Evie a bath I noticed further that it didn’t seem like the bathroom had been cleaned properly. When in the living room we moved the coffee table so we had more space to get her ready for bed and to lie on the floor, we discovered “garbage” lets say… as you can imagine we were a little disappointed so we let the front desk know. They sent someone up to check the room and tidy it for us. The employee returned later with a coupon for us to use to get breakfast the next morning along with some drinks and a couple chocolates to enjoy while watching the Oscars.
Evie woke up at 5:30am, she has not done this in weeks. She some how managed to get her arms out of her sleep sack and was flailing around in her sleep waking herself up. Thankfully she went back to sleep after a small top up from her bottle, and some cuddles. She did still decide to start the day early at 7:30am, I guess we have become a little spoiled with her sleeping in to 8:30am or later recently. We got her ready and ourselves, by doing some crazy sort of rotation between one of us watching her. Some how we managed and got all our things into the car in time to check out.
When we did check out, the Manager of the hotel came to speak with us and informed us that he had comped our stay and wanted to offer us another stay in the future. This was above and beyond what we expected. We have stayed at this hotel before and we really like it there, so we are definitely looking forward to going back to Whistler already. After checking out we did do a little more walking around the village before packing Evie into the car seat again and driving home. We enjoyed a nice little getaway from everything back home. Sometimes you just need a little break like this.

Wow! That's amazing that they comped your stay AND offered you another! Usually it's just one, and normally the latter so they can still squeeze more money out of you through incidentals and such. Very exciting!
