Anyone else love the book, and the movie, Little Women? When I decided to get my hair cut I had visuals of the scene where Jo has her hair cut and sells it to get some money for her family. She did it out of love for her family, and she knew it was the one thing she could do to help out. Cutting my hair was something I could easily do to help put a smile on the face of a kid.
With my surgery coming up this week, and my own thoughts on finding out if I have cancer or not, I knew I wanted to get my hair cut off soon. I decided to just jump in and get it done, and get my hair sent off sooner than later. The sooner it gets to Wigs for Kids BC the sooner it can be used to make a wig!
We had received an email about haircuts by donation at the salon I usual go to, but there was a long wait because it was part of a street event happening that day. I went in to see if I could get in any sooner, or when I could book an appointment at the earliest possible time to get my hair cut. Lucky me, Michauds Salon & Spa had an opening for right then. I told the stylist what I was wanting to do, and also showed her some photos of shorter styles that I liked. We had brought a measuring tape with us to make sure I had enough length needed for donating. I needed at least 8 inches. I had more than enough! The stylist sectioned off my hair, and went to work making sure each one was at the same length before cutting. I was able to have 12 inches cut off for donating, and not end up having a bob haircut. I really didn’t want to have a bob. I did start to tear up as I thought about going to short hair, and also about why I was doing this. They were tears of joy. Evie and Jason were both there supporting me, while Evie might not understand why Mommy’s hair changed right now, maybe some day she will decide to do the same. Right now, I am thankful that my daughter is happy and healthy, and we have not needed this organization to provide a wig for her. We are incredible happy to donate to them.
What does 12 inches off my hair look like? Check it out! It’s much shorter than I am used to. I have no had hair this short in 4+ years. Definitely longer actually. I’m going to have to remember to use much less shampoo now, and I am really looking forward to my hair taking less time to dry and style.
If you are thinking about donating your hair please check out Wigs For Kids BC if you are in this area, or look for one local to you. The stylist who cut my hair today was telling me about how a little 6 year old girl had come in the day before and donated her hair. She had sat down in the chair and inquired about how long her hair needed to be in order to donate and with that knowledge she decided to go for it. What an inspiration, and what a heart to want to donate at that age!
If you are willing, I would love your help in meeting my pledge donation goal. You can find my pledge page here:

I liked your long hair because your hair is so beautiful, but I really like the short style on you! You can just see how much lighter it must feel!

Love the new do! Both myself and my 5 year old have donated our hair – I was so much sadder about hers than my own! Prayers for your upcoming surgery.
