A NEW EXHIBIT: WILDLIFE RESCUE
We had an opportunity to go visit the latest traveling exhibit to visit the Vancouver Aquarium. It is called Wildlife Rescue: Miracles in Conservation. For a limited time, guests can get an up-close look at several different animals and learn all about different endangered animals through immersive environments and play areas. It’s a great opportunity to learn about how we can have an impact in rescue and conservation. This exhibit is available to see now through to September 25, 2022, and is included in the usual entry fee to the Vancouver Aquarium.
WHAT DID THE KIDS LOVE ABOUT IT?
All the different interactive features were a huge hit with our kids. Getting on a scale to see what age panda they equaled started a challenge to get them all on there to see how high they could get the scale to go up because they wanted to be each one. Pretending to have an elephant trunk, thanks to a puppet, was a learning curve in figuring out how to hold and stack building blocks. Another favourite was the turtle crossing where kids could put on turtle shells and pretend to be a turtle crossing under a road.
Interactive things like this are what help kids learn and give great opportunities to ask questions.
SEEING THE ANIMALS AND LEARNING ABOUT THEM
One thing that was really gotten across to our kids was the fact that several of the animals you could see at the exhibit, had been rescued from people who thought they could have them as a pet and take good enough care of them. Only to learn that these animals should not be pets and end up having to surrender them. This brought up a very important discussion about animals and having pets and the care they need.
It was a great opportunity for our whole family to learn about wildlife rescue and what exactly goes into conservation.
CHECK OUT THE REST OF THE AQUARIUM
We made sure to pack a picnic lunch with us to enjoy. Taking the opportunity to go and sit outside on the benches and relax. There are a couple of options to purchase food if needed too. PS: The french fries are really good just keep an eye on them if you are eating outside, they are a favourite of the crows and gulls too.
Take your time to explore the rest of the aquarium. If you go with your kids, take your time and go at their speed for things while they are exploring. You never know what they will discover and notice that you might usually miss. Kids have a great ability to notice things we do not.
