The Zipadee-Zip was created by Stephanie Parker (she is the owner and creator) for her own daughter. It came about because of her families own need for sleep! Her daughter had reached the point of being able to break out of a swaddle, and was also rolling. Stephanie soon realized that transitioning little ones from a swaddle to going without is a problem many parents face with their little ones. She put together the first Zipadee-Zip, and her daughter went from no sleep to sleeping 12hrs straight the first evening she slept in it. This is where the idea came from, and it has taken off into a great product and business. You can tell right away Stephanie is very passionate about her product right down to every detail including that the Zipadee-Zips do not contain any chemicals.
We fondly call our daughter our little starfish baby every time she wears this when going to sleep. You will notice right away that the design is a bit different than most sleep sacks. It looks more like a star shape, which gives room for little arms and legs to move around in. Now the sizes for these are a bit different, Stephanie very kindly helped me to figure out what size was best. The recommendation is that the size small is for little ones who are 6 months and under, and also 18lbs or less. The small is also recommended for making an easier transition from swaddling to a sleep sack. The medium is what we received, and is suggested for those who have already transitioned, or are above 18lbs or so. There is a significant difference between the medium and large there is much more freedom for movement, it is a great option for keeping little ones warm at night.
For our daughter, she often would wake up with cold little feet and hands. Most sleep sacks will cover feet, but not your little ones hands. I was concerned at first because our daughter normally sucks her thumb at nap time and bed time, she had no problem with her hands being covered when in this. The morning after her first night sleeping in her Zipadee-Zip, her hands and feet were warm.
The standard Zipadee-Zip comes in many different print options from polka dots, to elephants. I even saw a snowman print, called “Frosty” on the website. There is also a fleece option if you need a warmer sleepsack for you little one. I really like the the zipper gets tucked in nice and snug inside a pocket near the top, so that it won’t be in the way or poke your little one. No pinching skin while zipping it up. With our daughter we are at a fun stage of her not liking how long it takes for us to get her into pajamas, we can easily zip her into this quickly. No need to put her into pajamas, we know she will be comfy and cozy in it.
I was also really happy to see that she had plenty of room to move around. She could roll over and change position without a problem in her sleep. She could even stand up while in the Zipadee-Zip. She was even crawling at top speed in her room and down the hall way!
How I wish we had this sleep sack when we were transitioning our daughter from being swaddled every night for bedtime, to going without that tight swaddle. I am sure this would have made the process a whole lot easier, I have heard nothing but incredible things about how parents have transitioned their children with the help of the Zipadee-Zip. I recently tried the Zipadee-Zip and was super skeptical that it would even work since literally nothing else had and to my utter shock, he slept 12 hours the first night in it! Crazy! I guess the resistance in the arm span is what gives him the feeling of being swaddled and soothes his startle reflex but the star shape gives him the ability to push up and roll over. He couldn’t safely roll in the swaddle and when he would break free, I’d find the loose fabric over his face which terrified me! The Zipadee-Zip (www.sleepingbaby.com is where I found it) gave him the security to be able to sleep swaddle free which means I SLEPT TOO!!! Thank goodness for this thing! This company is doing wonderful things!
